Episode Summary:

Sunit Suchdev is a Certified Life Coach specializing in helping new and expecting moms prepare for motherhood so they don't end up losing themselves in overwhelm. She's a speaker and an author, and has her undergraduate degree in Physical Education specializing in early childhood development. Also known as the Modern Twin Mom, she has over 20 years of experience working with children, and is a mom of twin four year-olds herself. She also recently launched her own podcast, Modern Mommy Prepschool, where she helps new and expecting moms get to the bottom of what it truly means to be an awesome parent, raising awesome kids, without losing yourself.

In this episode, Sunit shares with us her 5 Pillars of Parenthood, which include the five main areas that she helps new and expecting parents go through to avoid that feeling of new parent overwhelm and burnout.  A lot of what we talk about today will apply whether you’re pregnant and expecting your first child, or even if you’re a seasoned parent.  This is just a wonderful framework that will help both moms and dads discover what their true values are as a family, and how to align their actions so they can feel fulfilled, prepared, and on track as a parent.

What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

  • We cover the five areas of parenthood that will help you and your partner become intentional about how you approach your marriage, your parenting, and how you can become more intentional about how you operate in your family.
  • How you can use these 5 pillars of parenthood to connect more deeply with your partner and reduce the conflict that can come up for new parents.
  • How every family can live a more peaceful and enjoyable life with kids by planning ahead and becoming more intentional.

Episode Summary:

In this episode we chat with Nicole Cooley, who is a corporate drop-out and momprenuer currently obsessed with sleep schedules, produce delivery and binge watching “The Good Wife.”  Her company Money With Moxie teaches women to be powerful with money and use it as a tool to design their ideal life. She does this by exploring limiting beliefs and value alignment, while building tangible debt and savings plans.

Money is such a sensitive topic, but it’s a subject that I know every working family thinks about at least a little (and for some of you, a lot).  Everything changes when you have kids, and sometimes your financial situation is the thing that causes the most stress.  Maybe you have enough money, but you feel like you’re squandering it on useless items.  Or maybe just the weight of daycare costs and clothes and toys and all of the other expenses that add up truly do keep you up at night.  Our guest today has five awesome tips that can help you start to get more organized with your finances as a family, and she gives us some great steps to start to achieve our money goals.  I also love her approach to financial planning… it’s not all about sacrifice and deprivation, it’s extremely pragmatic.  So stay tuned to hear more.

What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

  • A simple and realistic approach to managing your family’s finances so you can grow your wealth and remove the stress associated with lack of money.
  • What your three main “resource buckets” are, and how understanding those three buckets can help you create more balance in your life financially and in general.
  • Identify your “money leaks” so you can stop hemorrhaging money and keep more for what really matters to you.

Episode Summary:

Today I am going to be chatting with you a bit about my favorite productivity strategies and how I personally juggle all of the different things I’m doing these days.

My goal with this episode is to not only inspire you to start integrating those things into your life that are really meaningful and will fulfill you – because I think we all really need that as working parents – but also to give you real strategies that you can apply to your own life that aren’t just going to distract you.

What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

  • The reason why I usually don’t like sharing “productivity hacks” and don’t put a whole lot of emphasis on them.
  • How I Identify which goals are worth pursuing and which ones aren’t worth my time.
  • How I set specific goals and outline a plan to achieve them.
  • How I work through those moments when I’m not motivated to continue toward my goals.
  • How I make sure I’m not sacrificing the things that are most important to me: specifically my health, my family, and my sanity.

Episode Summary:

In this episode we chat with Chuck Starnes who is a marriage coach in San Jose, California.  Chuck and I really dive deep on one of the topics that I know so many of you really struggle with: how to stay connected with your spouse when you’re raising a family and managing your career and running a household… there are just so many things that can pull us off track in our relationship, and Chuck’s advice and insights are so on point.

In this episode we talk a lot about why conflict doesn’t have to be a bad thing in your relationship, and in fact, why experiencing conflict in your relationship really means you’re probably with the perfect person.  We also dive into some specific tools couples can use to re-connect if they’ve been feeling distant or if they’ve been bickering with each other more than usual.  And we’ll talk about how we can look deeper at what we’re fighting about to REALLY grow as individuals and to strengthen our marriage.

Chuck Starnes has a Master’s degree from Pepperdine University and over 20 years of experience in pastoral counseling working with marriages.  His marriage coaching has been highly effective in helping couples reconnect and restore intimacy in their relationship.  He and his wife Sandy have been married for 36 years, have two daughters and two grandchildren, and live in San Jose, California.  Chuck is also a member of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors.

What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

  • We chat about some of the hidden reasons why couples fight, especially after they become parents. The things we tend to attribute to our marital discourse aren’t usually the REAL problems that needs to be solved.
  • We discuss the deeper, subconscious reasons why we encounter conflict with our partners, and how we can start to use those times of conflict to re-connect and become stronger individually.
  • Chuck shares specific tools we can use to “baby-proof” our relationship.

Episode Summary:

I could just talk to our guest today, Monica Froese, forever.  She is honestly a reservoir of helpful information and a pioneer who’s doing what she can to help working families create more balanced and less stressful lives.  She’s a working mom herself who’s felt the exhaustion and the frustration, and decided to take matters into her own hands to start a productive conversation to begin changing things for the better (a girl after my own heart!).  I truly enjoyed this conversation, and love the message she’s spreading.

Monica Froese is a mom, wife, author and business strategist for mom entrepreneurs.  She has an MBA degree in Finance and Marketing and blogs at www.RedefiningMom.com, a site for empowering working moms.  In 2015, she traveled to the White House to discuss family-friendly workplace policies with President Obama’s senior advisors and has been featured on several media outlets including Fox News, Scary Mommy, Healthline, and Mom Talk Radio.  Her passion is to help other moms find their version of balance through time management tips, flexible work options, and helping women build online businesses to escape the 9-5. Her new eBook, “Busy Moms Building: 12 Steps to Running Your Own Online Business for Busy Moms,” helps moms start their own online businesses in just 45 days.

What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

  • How to process those overwhelming emotions that come up when you return to work after having your baby.
  • How to deal with the judgment we face when we become a working parent, and standing up to the expectations of others that we stay home with our kids.
  • Learn about the conversations they’re having in Washington around the struggles facing working families, including maternity leave laws, managing your packed (and often inflexible work) schedule, childcare expenses, etc.
